Ocho Rios is the Beverly Hills of Jamaica

Ocho Rios, with its affluent class and rich homes, makes you feel like you're in Beverly Hills, but classier. It's a former French colony. The accent of the Jamaicans who live here and in other parts of the island is a mixture of French, English, Spanish, and Swahili dialects which is a dialect they call, "Patois." Today, English is the official spoken language. There's a number of pretty good restaurants in the area with exotic looks that will only make you think you're dreaming. There's a lot of dirt roads, but the city itself is very clean and tidy.

The area surrounding it is a setting where Bond movies were filmed and famous musicians have restaurants. It's also a place where all the big cruise liners come into because of the big harbor. It is filled with sunken ships and an excellent under the sea view. Who knows, maybe you'll find some hidden treasure!

In June they have a wonderful Jazz festival. You'll also have an interesting shopping adventure as you are approached by the locals presenting there latest island goodies. You can buy all sorts of trinkets and interesting island crafts that you can't find anywhere.

You'll be seeing a bird's eye view when you sign up for a good parasail high in the sky with a nice view of the mountains. The price is worth it and you'll be glad you did just hold on tight.

If you like snorkeling, this area has the best snorkeling on the entire island. In fact, below the steps of the hotel, is "thee" best underwater section of the entire island with all sorts of sunken treasures.

Near this city is a huge waterfall, which is one of the many romantic sites. You'll be climbing this waterfall from the base to the top. It's a long adventure, worth the price, and you'll enjoy every step of the way. Here's a snapshot I took of this little romantic place.
